For the past 10 years Boston Organics has been working to bring fresh organic fruits and vegetables to the folks of Boston. Boston Organics, founded by Jeff Barry, is an organic produce delivery company that aims to provide quality, fresh organic produce to customers in order to promote healthy living in a sustainable way while also supporting local farms and business.

The concept of Boston Organics is simple. You log onto their website and select which weekly box you want to receive. They are designed to fit all types of needs, family sizes, and appetites. From the “Small Box” that fits the needs of a single person who doesn’t have much time to cook at home, but still wants some healthy options in the house to the larger “Family Box” that provides more of the staples needed to feed a family for the week.  All of the produce is 100% certified organic and sourced locally whenever possible. There is no long term commitment and you can choose a weekly or every other week schedule. You also have the ability to see what is in your box each week, where it is coming from, and select any items for your “no-list” that you never want to receive in your box. Never want to see kale in your box? No problem. Boston Organics will just substitute it for another fresh vegetable. In addition to fruits and vegetables, Boston Organics also offers add-ons to the box that include eggs, cheese, bread and other local specialty items. Each box is accompanied with an e-newsletter that includes handy tips for storage of produce and recipes.

Jeff Barry, a graduate of Skidmore College and former Peace Corps volunteer, brought Boston Organics to life in Boston after living in San Francisco and subscribing to a produce delivery company called Planet Organics. Produce was delivered straight to his home and allowed him to not only experience new fruit and vegetable selections but also learn how to cook with them. In 2002, Barry and his wife moved back to Boston, with some pointers from Planet Organics, and Boston Organics was born. This year Boston Organics celebrates 10 years of delivering its easily recognizable green box of fresh local and organic produce to the Boston community.

Boston Organics mission is to “provides access to fresh, organic produce to promote and support healthy living in a mindful and sustainable way that respects the environment, supports local farms, local businesses, and fair-trade practices”. With a mission that falls right in line with the Boston Local Food Festival’s goals, Boston Organics will proudly be returning for the 3rd year in a row to serve as a festival sponsor and participate in what Barry described as “a true celebration of the local food community”.

Throughout the festival Boston Organics will provide information on their services and engage in conversations about the local food community with festival-goers. In addition to meeting potential customers, Boston Organics also looks forward to meeting current customers to put faces to a name and make connections with potential new suppliers. Overall, Boston Organics will be spending the day immersed in the local food community celebrating right along with the rest of us.
