Canton’s Blue Hills Brewery will join a great selection of craft brewers and local food producers at the 3rd Annual Local Craft Brewfest in Boston on October 5. Blue Hills Brewery has been on the scene for a few short years, but their brews are quickly becoming a favorite throughout the Northeast.
Partners Andris Veidis, Peter Augis, and Martin Grots founded Blue Hills Brewery in 2009. Veidis, CEO and Brewmaster, studied at the American Brewers Guild and brings over 20 years of industry experience. With the opportunity to open Blue Hills Brewery, Veidis was able to fulfill his dream of having a brewery where he could control the entire brewing process. Three years ago the brewery was functioning with only a small team of volunteers. Now they have seven staff people and ten interns working to bottle beer for over 700 accounts in Massachusetts.
Blue Hills Brewery buys only American-made and they are always looking to increase their use of local products. Jim O’Neil, Director of Operations, explains that the Canton and Boston areas have “great stores and bars that really enjoy a well-made craft beer and we have made long lasting relationships with so many great outlets. Canton’s access to major highways makes it quite easy to transport our beer, since we self-distribute with just one van. If you see the BHB van on the road, give him honk!”
For the Local Craft Brewfest in October, Blue Hills Brewery will bring their flagship IPA (India Pale Ale) along with a few seasonal selections. Be sure to try their hoppy, yet smooth IPA, as it’s their most popular. O’Neil adds: “as the brewmaster insists: every brewery has to have a good IPA in the portfolio or you won’t get very far in this business. It’s America’s favorite style.” Click here for descriptions of each type of beer Blue Hills Brewery makes.
