Alright beer drinkers, it’s time to get excited. The Local Craft Brewfest is fast approaching (Friday October 5th is just around the corner) and soon you’ll be drinking great craft brews and eating delicious food. The best part? You’ll also be raising funds for the Boston Local Food Festival, as the two “fests” are affiliated.
Today’s spotlight is no stranger to local beer festivals, CodyBrewingCo. actively attends and even plans beer festivals that keep people coming back for more. With unique brew names like Purple Rain, No Name IPA, Hypnotic Tonic, and Carrot Cake Porter (yes, it is made with real carrots, over 60 lbs. per barrel, in fact) it’s no wonder they’ve got devotedfans all over the city.
After sitting down with Ben Lauranzano, of Cody Brewing, the passion and dedication that Cody has for its product became very clear. “We are home brewers first and foremost,” Lauranzano said of how they research and develop their new beers. Their Hypnotic Tonic (containing lemons, limes, and 100+ lbs of honey) was brewer “Gee Man’s” first ever homebrew and will be Cody Brewing’s next release. You can’t get much more local than Cody does with their ingredients either, as they are farmers as well. They grow their own hops in their yards and at local farms. Cody also tries to grow or locally source the ingredients that make their beers so unique; pumpkins, mint, ginger, and nugget hops (hops for the fall beer “Nugzilla”).
Cody Brewing Co. doesn’t take its status as a local craft brewer lightly, even the spelling of their Honey Gingah Pale Ale reflects the Boston accent. It’s also, coincidentally, one of their most popular beers on draft. They actively support their city, Amesbury, and foundations like the MSPCA. Lauranzano couldn’t have put it better when he said “At the end of the day, no matter how big we get, it’s these people and these communities that gave us our start and that’s going to be what’s most important to us. That’s the way it will always be, to recognize where we are from and how we got here.”
But all work and no play would make Cody a dull brewery and that’s not the case. Cody offers “Growler Hours” on Saturday, where consumers can get huge half gallons of beer that aren’t available outside of the brewery. If that weren’t enough fun, Cody Brewing Co. recently saw the “return” of wrestlers Hulk Hogan and Macho Man at a local bar for the release of a new beer. I have been assured that a good time was had all around and there are Facebookpictures to prove it!

The folks at Cody certainly live and support their motto, “Drink Awesome,” making sure that their beers are associated with great taste and a good time. So get pumped, because if the past is any indicator, the folks at Cody Brewing Co. are sure to make the Local Craft Brewfest a rip-roaring good time.
